Apply professional effects, share results on social networking sites and use your iPad camera to fill an area on a layer with the camera fill feature—all using your fingers.

With 3 million new iPads sold (and counting), it looks like Apple's latest version of its tablet computer is a big hit. That's due in large part to the most impressive new feature of the iPad—its high-resolution Retina Display, which features four times more pixels than the iPad 2, allowing for richer colors and a vastly more brilliant display for high-definition photos and videos. Along with the eye-catching display, Apple also pumped up the processing power with the A5X chip, along with more powerful quad-core graphics and a 5-megapixel iSight camera with advanced optics for capturing high-quality photos and 1080p high-definition video. What this all means is that your new iPad (you went out and bought one already, didn't you?) is a high-tech camera and media-editing machine that you can hold in one hand. The next question you have to ask is this: Which applications are going to squeeze the most performance out of the machine? Thankfully, Apple's App Store answers that question with dozens of apps aimed at making your photo and video projects shine—and with the Retina Display, you're sure to be dazzled. Now get to work, shutterbugs.
