Analysts are expecting holiday spending to rise slightly from 2009 levels, despite high unemployment rates and a wobbly economy, and mobile phone makers are doing their share to fuel that trend. comScore is predicting 11 percent growth overall, and notes that spending during the first 21 days of November was already off to a strong start, thanks to major promotions on the part of retailers, including around mobile phones. Indeed, in addition to helping out manufacturers, these deals are a coup for consumers—whether shopping for themselves or looking to imbue someone else with some holiday cheer. Below is a sample of what's currently available for less than $100, from the new and affordable but nonetheless boasting 3G, to the market's very highest-end devices, now miraculously available for a song. For $100—or even free with a contract—consumers can now expect WiFi and even 4G connectivity, high-end cameras, crystal-clear touch screens, media players, HDMI support and super-fast processors. Happy shopping.
