Research In Motion Ltd.s BlackBerry 5810 cell phone/wireless messaging device combines the best characteristics of previous BlackBerry devices with a higher-speed GPRS radio and a more developer-friendly J2ME software platform. The resulting integrated device can reduce device clutter and boost user productivity.

Cost Analysis

The 5810 costs $499—the same price as its voiceless elder sibling, the 957. Data services begin at $44.99 a month for unlimited e-mail and 1MB of GPRS traffic. Voice capabilities require a separate voice plan from VoiceStream.

+ Runs J2ME platform; backlit display and keyboard; operates on GPRS network.

- Battery life is shorter than BlackBerry 957; GPRS coverage is not available in all areas; ships without HTML browser.
