For companies that are struggling with ways to defend endpoints, most noticeably on laptops that travel outside the corporate network, Blue Coat has released a new endpoint management software that aims to provide companies with the security that they nee

Blue Coat Systems, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company that focuses on delivering secure applications and contents within enterprise networks, announced Nov. 13 the launching of their new endpoint management software, Blue Coat SG Client, which distributes application and acceleration to endpoint devices that are used by any remote or mobile users. This new endpoint management software combines with Blue Coats network performance and security management appliances to allow mobile workers to use Blue Coats wide-area network application performance and security from any location, such as an employees home PC, Internet kiosks in airports or hotels or computers in partner organizations, across the distributed enterprise. "Organizations have been able to control application performance and security inside their own networks, but once users are outside, they have been beyond the reach of control," said Steve Mullaney, vice president of worldwide marketing for Blue Coat Systems, in a company statement.
"With Blue Coat SG Client, organizations will be able to seamlessly extend application security and performance to remote employees everywhere."

The Blue Coat SG Client, which is designed for mobile workers, teleworkers and branch offices, has an array features that will help a users computer that runs outside the protected corporate environment and is susceptible to viruses that slow performance and compromise business security such as:
  • Extends policy-based application security and acceleration to all users no matter where a user is located
  • Provides users with levels of security and control
  • Accelerates a wide variety of business and critical application traffic with Blue Coats patent-pending MACH5 application acceleration technology
  • Gives users end-to-end application delivery, which allows users to secure their information, protect their information and computer from spyware and other forms of malware
This new endpoint management software will enable the mobile worker to control application performance and security on managed endpoints as the Blue Coat SG Client will allow users to have their business with them at all times, as they can help prevent possible conflicts from a PDA device. "Blue Coats goal is no user is left behind--that no one is cut off from enterprise application performance and security," said Mullaney in the same company statement. The Blue Coat SG Client will be delivered in several phases over the next year; the first release is scheduled for availability in the first quarter of 2007.
