The chip company said the move is an attempt to save money and streamline the business.

Chip company Broadcom Corp. on Thursday announced a realignment of its marketing and development activities into four groups, down from six, in an attempt to save money and streamline the business. The Enterprise Computing Group is responsible for all Fast and Gigabit Ethernet controllers for corporate environments, as well as enterprise storage products, said officials at the Irvine, Calif., company. The Networking Infrastructure Group combines the companys physical layer and switching organizations. It includes Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet switching and physical layer products, Fibre Channel switching, security, broadband processors and optical products for carrier networks, large corporate environments, small-to-medium-sized business and small office/home office (SOHO) markets.
The Mobile and Wireless Group combines Broadcoms wireless LAN and cellular phone network products. It includes the companys GSM/GPRS and IEEE 802.11 chip sets as well as the companys voice over IP products.
The Broadband Communications Group includes the businesses that were previously part of the Broadband Communications Business Unit. It includes the companys cable, DSL and satellite broadband components. Each group will be run by a vice president who reports directly to Alan "Lanny" Ross, Broadcoms acting president and CEO.
