Verizon Wireless Aug. 10 unveiled the Motorola Droid 2 to the masses. The device goes on sale Aug. 12 for $199 with a two-year contract. Droid 2 is a serious upgrade over its popular predecessor, packing a 1 GHz OMAP processor into a device with a physical QWERTY keyboard and 3.7-inch screen. The device boasts Android 2.2, which means a faster Web browser and Web page rendering, as well as support for Microsoft Exchange. The latest Droid follows the Motorola Droid X, which Verizon can't make fast enough for consumers, and the popular HTC Droid Incredible, which is also often sold out. Oh, and the Droid 2 also follows the original Droid, which was extremely popular last holiday season and just got the bump to Android 2.2, and the less popular Droid Eris, a low-end device. eWEEK walks through the popular Droid lineup.
