Google's Nexus One smartphone made its debut Jan. 5 with plaudits and the great expectations of many members of the press and analyst corps. When the dust settled, it was largely determined that the Nexus One was just the latest in an increasingly long line of Android smartphones and certainly no slayer of Apple's iPhone. After testing the Nexus One, eWEEK concurs with these assessments. However, eWEEK found the device superior to its would-be iPhone-challenging predecessor, the Motorola Droid, in many ways. Differences between the Nexus One and the Droid are readily apparent as soon as the Nexus One is unpacked from its box. While Verizon Wireless did all it could to hype the Droid as the phone of the future in its robot-like packaging and advertising, the Nexus One appears much more understated. See for yourself.
