HTC released its latest smartphonethe SnapApril 1 at CTIA's wireless 2009 show in Las Vegas, joining an increasingly crowded field that includes the Apple iPhone, RIM's BlackBerry series, T-Mobile's G1 with Google's Android platform and the soon-to-be released Palm Pre.
HTC is promoting the Snap as a smartphone loaded with "everything consumers need without overwhelming them with things they don't need."
In other words, its all about the apps and the design. The 3G Snap offers a full QWERTY tactile keyboard designed with extra-large domed keys and an e-mail feature that allows users to bring up e-mail just from the user's personal favorites. A first look at HTC's Snap smartphone.

- HTC's Latest Smartphone Is a Snap
by Roy Mark - The Snap comes with the usual smartphone package: 3G connectivity, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Running on Microsoft's Windows Mobile, the Snap allows users to remotely synchronize e-mail, calendar and contacts with Exchange.
- The Snap's full QWERTY keyboard features a jog ball and dedicated hot keys for messaging, e-mail and HTC's Inner Circle service that allows users to select e-mail from prioritized senders.
- The Snap's slim design measures only one-half-inch thick but claims to deliver up to 8.5 hours of talk time when using GSM, while talk time tops out at 5 hours when using WCDMA.
- The Snap comes loaded with a 2-megapixel camera with video capture.
- The Snap features 256MB of ROM and 192MB of RAM along with an SDHC-capable microSD card slot. With the 1500mAh Lilon battery, the Snap weighs 4.23 ounces.
- The Snap is expected to ship in the U.S. during the second quarter, with rollout in other global markets by the end of the 2009. An unlocked version supporting HSDPA for the U.S. market is expected during the summer.
