InfoSpace Offers Free Trial of GPS Service

The company's enhanced service integrates spoken directions with GPS functionality to let users search for local businesses from their mobile phone.

InfoSpace announced Nov. 29 that it is offering a 60-day free trial of its enhanced GPS service, which allows mobile subscribers to search for local areas of interest from their phones.

The InfoSpace Find It! service integrates spoken directions with GPS functionality to let users search for local businesses, movie theaters, restaurants and events on their mobile phone.

"The free trial gives us the opportunity to show more mobile customers how they can get all the local information they need in one place with the convenience of spoken directions and listings information," said Rod Diefendorf, vice president of online and local search for InfoSpace, in a statement.

Since its launch in March, InfoSpace has made several enhancements to the Find It! service, including condensing millions of listings into six categories customized for users: Dine Out, Go Out, Shop, Travel, Health and Services.

The improved GPS service includes the following features:

  • Spoken turn-by-turn directions: The navigation system includes spoken directions and enables users to get to their destination without having to look at the screen.
  • Expanded content library: Users will be able to search for local events, entertainment, golf courses and other points of interest.
  • Refreshed listings: Movies and events are up-to-date and content is refreshed weekly.
  • Find people by name or number: Allows users to search the directory using only the first and last name of the desired person they are trying to reach or by entering a phone number to find out whom it belongs to.
  • Click to connect: Enables users to make phone calls with one click instead of dialing the entire number.

The service also pinpoints a users location through automated GPS or location systems.

"InfoSpace is focused on customer satisfaction and delivering the most user-friendly mobile local search application possible," Diefendorf said.

Mobile subscribers with select handsets can download the 60-day free trial of InfoSpace Find It! directly from their handsets.
