For retail workers with diverse needs for handheld devices, Intermec Technologies last week launched the CN30, a "build-your-own" rugged handheld computer that allows users to add custom modules.

Users can choose to add a 14-key module for basic graphical navigation or a 56-key alphanumeric module for applications that require extensive data keying. For scanning, users can attach a pistol-grip handle for use with the devices EV15 linear imager bar code.

The CN30 includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and allows users to communicate via a built-in speaker or with a wired or Bluetooth-compatible headset. The CN30 has a 640-by-480-pixel VGA color display and runs on Microsofts Windows Mobile operating system. It is due in the third quarter. Pricing is not yet available.
