The latest rumor to surface in the merger mania that has taken hold among wireless carriers is that Verizon is now eyeing Alltel, a telecom provider based in Little Rock that uses CDMA technology.

The latest rumor to surface in the merger mania that has gripped wireless carriers is that Verizon now has its eye on Alltel, a telecom provider based in Little Rock. Alltels CDMA (code division multiple access) wireless technology "makes it a natural target for Verizon--also a user of CDMA," says one analyst. Rumors circulated last week that Verizon would target Sprint but analysts disputed that liklihood after news of the Sprint-Nextel merger was announced.
