Itronix Q-200 System Resists the Elements

Itronix this week debuted its GoBook Q-200 rugged handheld computer, which supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and wide-area wireless networks.

The Q-200 is the latest in a class of handhelds designed to withstand extreme weather conditions. It can operate in temperatures ranging from minus 4 degrees to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and will work after being submerged in 1 meter of water for up to a half-hour, according to officials.

It can also endure multiple 4-foot drops, they said.

The Q-200 runs Windows CE .Net and is powered by an Intel 400MHz XScale processor. The device weighs about 1.7 pounds and ranges in price from $2,295 to $3,500, depending on the wireless configuration.

Itronix allows users to upgrade their devices at any time to support additional wireless technologies.

The Q-200, slated to be available next month, will compete with Symbol Technologies MC9000-K and MC9000-S mobile computers, launched last month.
