3Com to ship its AP 2000 and AP 8000.

Wireless 3Com Corp. this month will ship two 802.11b wireless LAN access points aimed at both sides of the economic spectrum. The Access Point 2000 is a no-frills, plug-and-play product that comes with an embedded Web server but no additional special features. It costs $229.

Security The Access Point 8000, geared toward large enterprises, is all about security. It includes support for 40-bit Wireless Equivalent Privacy and 129-bit, shared-key encryption; the IEEE 802.1x standard; RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service) authentication; and Extensible Authentication Protocol. For organizations that dont have a RADIUS server, the Santa Clara, Calif., companys AP 8000 offers dynamic security linking, meaning each user gets a key that changes with every session.
