Nokia Acquires Frequent Traveler Site Dopplr
A week after rumors claimed Nokia was buying Dopplr, an online social network for frequent travelers, Nokia makes it official.Nokia on Sept. 28 officially acquired Dopplr, which it described in a news release as "a privately held mobile service provider for international travelers." The deal comes a week after rumors surfaced that Nokia was buying Dopplr for $15 million to $20 million, although the official announcement did not disclose the purchase price.
Dopplr bills itself as a "social atlas," the members of which "share personal and business travel plans privately with their networks and exchange tips on places to stay, eat and explore in cities around the world." Dopplr maintains offices in London and Helsinki. Dopplr.com and on platforms where Dopplr is integrated."
Neither Dopplr nor Nokia had any further comment on the deal.
