Apple's iPhone is a enjoying a comfortable lead over Google's Android platform in the smartphone OS war, according to these statistics from Nielsen. But comScore stats served up in this Wall Street Journal piece (paywall) tell another tale. Just as AT&T's fortunes have been buoyed by selling 50 million-plus iPhones, Verizon Wireless is raking in the dough from sales of Android devices. And that is why the iPhone needed to get on the Verizon network yesterday.
