Apple fixed 18 security flaws in the latest update to its Mac OS X operating system. Several of the bugs are tied to the handling of images. Researchers have uncovered numerous vulnerabilities in popular XML libraries from Sun Microsystems, Python and the Apache Software Foundation. And developers who use the libraries are advised to take action as soon as possible. Twitter was shut down for hours Thursday morning by what it described as an "ongoing" denial-of-service attack, silencing millions of Tweeters. The U.S. Marine Corps announced it banned the use of social networking websites on all Marine Corps-owned PCs and notebooks.
