While primarily a networking showcase, several security vendors took advantage of the Interop show taking place May 8-12 in Las Vegas to launch security software, platforms and appliances. Vendors introduced advanced Web security filtering and scanning tools, next-generation firewalls, mobile security software, security management, cloud security platforms, intrusion prevention systems and anti-distributed denial of service systems. Dave Donatelli, executive vice president and general manager of enterprise servers, storage and networking at HP, touted the flexibility and innovation behind the company's FlexNetwork architecture during his keynote speech. Enterprises are faced with increasingly sophisticated attacks, such as advanced persistent threats and increasing volumes of malware. They also have to protect a very mobile workforce and diverse mobile hardware as employees use their devices to access corporate resources. In addition, the IT department has to protect employees from traditional threats such as spam and malicious Websites. More companies are also thinking about security compliance. Part of the new HP FlexNetwork architecture, the new HP TippingPoint S6100N Intrusion Prevention System propagates standard security policies across all physical, virtual and cloud resources in the data center, branch or wide-area network. Donatelli claimed a “100 percent better performance” over Cisco 4270.
NSFocus Security Appliances
NSFocus introduced three hardware appliances—the Anti-DDoS System, Web Application Firewall and Network Intrusion Prevention System—to the North American market, along with a cloud service, WebSafe.
AppRiver’s SecureSurf
An easy-to-deploy hosted service, SecureSurf protects companies against online threats by checking targeted Websites against its continuously updated list of malicious sites. IT managers can also create their own whitelists and establish usage policies.
Cisco ISR Web Security with Cisco ScanSafe
Organizations with multiple sites and/or mobile workers can centralize Web policy and security using ISR Web Security with ScanSafe from Cisco.
McAfee’s Cloud Security Platform
McAfee launched its new Cloud Security Platform with five modules handling Web, mobile, email and Web services security as well as cloud access control. Intel Expressway Cloud Access 360 and Intel Expressway Service Gateway are part of the platform.
SonicWALL NSA E8510
The latest addition to SonicWALL’s line of next-generation firewall appliances, the E8510 provides enterprises with real-time application intelligence and control. The firewall is ideal for education, health care and data center deployments.
