MarkMonitor buys DtecNet to enhance its ability to fight online piracy.
Brand
protection vendor MarkMonitor has acquired DtecNet to bolster its ability
to fight fraud and piracy.
MarkMonitor, based in San Francisco, offers
products and services to prevent brandjacking and online fraud. The
acquisition, made for an undisclosed sum, builds on the existing relationship
between the two companies.
According to MarkMonitor, the addition of DtecNet's development team in Denmark
and operations center in Vilnius, Lithuania,
will expand the company's reach.
"Acquiring DtecNet broadens data access capabilities for our solutions,"
said MarkMonitor CEO Irfan Salim. "In
addition to
monitoring
Websites, online auction sites, business-to-business exchanges, search
engines and social media for evidence of counterfeit goods-including physical
goods-and other brand abuses, we can also monitor peer-to-peer, Usenet and
streaming sites for pirated digital content."
DtecNet founder and CEO Thomas Sehested
will join MarkMonitor as a senior vice president.
