Now a formidable vulnerability assessment tool, QualysGuard Intranet Scanner from Qualys (www.qualys.com) provides an appliance that sits inside the firewall and collects data, instead of linking the collection process to each device over the Internet. The price gave us a little sticker shock, but keep in mind that there is no software to install, no capital costs aside from the scanner appliance and streamlined access to reliable information about potential network problems.

(+) No additional staff is needed to deploy the product; comprehensive reports highlight vulnerabilities and link to possible fixes.

(-) Indicates a fix has been applied even if the problem device is simply absent during a scan; setting up custom reports can take several weeks to learn.
