TrustedID Service Freezes Credit Reports

TrustedID's new IDFreeze service allows consumers to attempt to prevent identity theft by blocking access to credit information. (

TrustedID announced on March 13 the launch of its IDFreeze service, which aims to put consumers in control of their credit. IDFreeze is an e-management tool that lets users lock and block access to credit information in their names. The company charges $7.95 per month or $89.95 per year.
"Our vision and mission is helping consumers control their credit files," said Scott Mitic, TrustedID co-founder. "Today there is nothing in the market to help consumers protect themselves proactively against someone stealing their identity."

IDFreeze is currently available in 10 states, including California, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Nevada, North Carolina, Texas, Vermont and Washington. Congress is currently drafting legislation that will let TrustedID roll its product out nationwide, according to officials. "From a legislative perspective its an interesting time now because the question is whether the federal law will give consumers more power to protect their data or less power to protect their data," Mitic said.
