eWEEK Labs Walk-through: SkyRecon StormShield 5.1.00 beta 2
by Matthew D. Sarrel
The first time an administrator launches the SkyRecon Management Console, the console itself must be configured, then policy can be created.
StormShield Server and Agent can be a little rough around the edges at times. Here, results of an anti-virus scan are displayed in French despite language being set to English.
The default internal Web page from which the client agent can be downloaded is fully customizable. Anything that can be done using HTML is possible, such as adding a corporate logo and deeper explanations of the agents that should be downloaded.
Basic security settings can easily be toggled on and off using the Security Policy Editor.
Complex conditions can be tested and remediated automatically once established in the Environment Manager. This is the bread and butter of StormShield Server, as it allows for unlimited tweakability.
SkyRecon's StormShield is an unrivaled endpoint security policy management and enforcement tool that adds top-notch anti-malware capabilities, yet installation, configuration, overall GUI and help/wizard/support shortcomings are reasons for caution.
