Most corporate workers need to stay in touch while on the road and that means a cell phone, e-mail and Web browser at a minimum. Enterprise IT pros are faced with a confusing array of choices as they seek to establish a corporate standard. Whatever device is chosen, it should provide an application development environment for the future. Although Apple’s iPod is getting such an environment, it is still not secure enough for most corporations. Google, meanwhile is developing its cross-platform Android environment, which could prove popular. One thing’s certain. People don’t want to carry around five or six different devices, and they want to use that device when they’re on the job, and when they’re not. Stan Gibson reports.
