Microsoft's Office Labs team is treating attendees of the Enterprise 2.0 to a sneak preview of a Facebook-like social network the company is working on to help employees keep tabs on each other. For all the talk of Mobile Internet Devices, or MIDs, the market is ill-defined. But the competition is taking shape - Nvidia and Intel. VMware’s cozy relationship with Microsoft is in it’s last days. VMware has been the unquestioned leader in x86 virtualization. But new challengers, like Microsoft and Citrix, have cropped up in recent years. The notion of open collaboration might seem antithetical to the CIA, but the U.S. spy network is turning that notion on its ear with Intellipedia, like Wikipedia for the James Bond set, but with more complex levels of security. IT departments, with the exception of those that serve the housing and credit sectors, have been so far immune to the effects of the economic slowdown. But new data suggests techies are feeling the squeeze - and significantly so.
