Windows & Interoperability: 10 Must-See Microsoft Windows Mobile Smartphones from CES

By Nicholas Kolakowski on 2010-01-11

In October, Microsoft rolled out Windows Mobile 6.5, its mobile operating system intended as a placeholder of sorts until the company could release the reportedly more robust Mobile 7. As part of its release push, Microsoft also announced Windows Marketplace, an online clearinghouse for mobile applications, and the release of more than 30 new smartphones equipped with Mobile 6.5 by the end of 2009.

However, Microsoft’s mobile operating-system market share is also declining in the face of steep competition from Apple, RIM, Palm and Google Android. As the company tries to hold the line ahead of the release of Mobile 7, here are the smartphones, as well as a pair of Zunes, the company displayed at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas as its best hope of attracting and retaining customers.
