Next-Generation Unified Messaging
The Issue
For some, migration to unified messaging is a key component of VoIP plans. For others, voice messaging replacement has a new urgency and is being addressed separately. Many factors lead to this renewed interest: obsolescence of legacy voicemail systems, e-discovery and compliance rules, and the need for new capabilities to support remote workers. Finally, enterprises are looking to reduce the cost of managing complex disparate systems assembled by distributed purchasing or acquisition of other businesses.

In addition, according to Paul Simmonds of the Jericho Forum, and former chief information security officer at chemical manufacturer ICI, most IT managers don't have the time or the staff, and users don't exercise enough responsibility, to make managing security in-house an efficient and safe option. Managed security services may also help prevent spammers or Internet criminal organizations from compromising a company's desktops and servers, says Simmonds, in this IT Link podcast.
