The president of European Union called for major legislative reforms to spark innovation during an address at the opening of the Cebit conference in Hannover, Germany. Instead of waiting for a technology revolution that force change, Juan Manuel Barroso said the European Union needs to make reforms now that would drive both investments in education and develop small to medium sized companies. As part of the effort, Barroso asked European leaders to support pending Small Business Act that would create a more entrepreneurial environment within the European Union. Other significant reforms being pressed by Barroso included the ability for researchers to move more freely across the European Union and a broadband across borders initiative that would make easier for people moving across diverse European countries to access the Internet without having to pay multiple tariffs in each country. "We are not asking for a revolution, but rather reforms so we can create a real internal market in Europe" said Barroso. |
