To compete in today's marketplace, companies increasingly are turning to public cloud architectures. They build out robust cloud infrastructures to achieve efficiency, reduce costs and improve flexibility with the ability to dial up and dial down resources according to business needs. Adopting a cloud strategy often takes time; however, it doesn't end with migration. Even when companies feel they have developed an effective cloud environment, managing it can be a challenge. At any given moment, companies with fully formed clouds might struggle to understand just how their instances are working—how much they're spending on the cloud, who in their organization is spinning up cloud resources and how people are using those resources. For this eWEEK slide show, we interviewed executives at CloudHealth Technologies, a provider of cloud service management tools for the enterprise, to come up with five stages companies typically pass through on their journeys to a mature cloud-based environment.
