Amazon's AWS Summit Accelerates Cloud Services

Amazon is already the leader in the cloud with its Amazon Web Services (AWS), which has more than 1 million users, but the company is not resting on its laurels. At the AWS Summit, which was Webcast from New York City on July 9, Amazon CTO Werner Vogels detailed the key trends he sees in the cloud and announced new services to help meet the demands of those trends. The six key cloud trends identified by Vogels are the increasing need to move more quickly; a focus on core competence; removing the need for servers; security; mobility; and improving the utility of data. To help put data to work, Vogels announced the new Amazon API Gateway, a fully managed cloud service that enables developers to publish, maintain, monitor and secure APIs at scale. To accelerate mobile development options in the cloud, Vogels announced the new AWS Device Farm, a service for automatically testing code on a myriad of mobile device types. While the cloud offers many options to organizations, it can sometimes be difficult to fully understand all the costs involved, which is why Vogels announced the new Forecasts capability for AWS. With Forecasts, AWS users can create budgets and cost forecasts for their cloud usage. In this slide show, eWEEK takes a look at some of the highlights of the 2015 AWS Summit.
