HONG KONG—The open-source OpenStack cloud effort, hosting its semi-annual summit here this week, is showing off the diversity of its user base and the technologies they employ. OpenStack isn't a single technology and isn't a single company either; it's an open-source collaborative effort that spans the globe. Presenting new user survey data in an analyst and press briefing at the summit, OpenStack Foundation Executive Director Jonathan Bryce detailed where developers are and where OpenStack clouds are being deployed. Bryce also detailed the survey findings showing cloud deployment preferences for a number of different technology choices that OpenStack cloud implementers make when building an OpenStack cloud. While the U.S is still the leading location for OpenStack developers—China, and Beijing, in particular—is home to a large group of OpenStack developers now, too. All those developers enable China to be a global powerhouse when it comes to OpenStack deployments, as well. Based on data from the OpenStack Foundation study, this eWEEK slide show looks at OpenStack's customers and what technologies they are using to deploy clouds.
