VMware's annual VMworld USA conference from Aug. 30 to Sept. 3 at San Francisco's Moscone Center focused on the latest and greatest in virtualization technologies. A cornerstone of the event is the keynote speeches in which VMware and its partners talk about new products and general trends for the road ahead. Among the many products VMware announced at the event are automation tools for building next-generation data centers such as the new VMware EVO SDDC (software-defined data center) and vSAN (virtual storage area network) 6.1, VMware Integrated OpenStack 2 and NSX (network virtualization) 2.0 products. VMware President and Chief Operating Officer Carl Eschenbach kicked off the first day of VMworld keynotes by emphasizing that applications are the cornerstone that the unified hybrid cloud enables. VMware demoed the unified hybrid cloud concept in which the public and private clouds can interoperate. Perhaps no single demo at VMworld 2015 got more applause than one showing a cross data center vMotion, where a virtual machine went from a private data center to the public cloud. Here's a look at highlights from the VMworld 2015 general sessions.
