TIBCO Software joins the Cloud Foundry Foundation to contribute technology expertise to further expand the open Cloud Foundry platform.
a provider of integration, analytics and event processing, announced that it has joined the Cloud Foundry Foundation
, an independent nonprofit organization that drives the development, promotion and adoption of Cloud Foundry as an industry standard platform for cloud applications.
As a foundation member, TIBCO will be in a position to contribute to the development of the platform to help enterprises in the midst of cloud adoption.
"The path to digital business transformation demands a cloud strategy that addresses the most challenging real-world requirements encountered by enterprise IT departments," said Matt Quinn, executive vice president of products and technology and chief technology officer of TIBCO, in a statement. "By joining the Cloud Foundry Foundation, we have an opportunity to cooperatively enhance the Cloud Foundry platform, equipping developers with the best tools to swiftly and safely architect the kind of cloud-native applications that grow businesses."
TIBCO will work with other Cloud Foundry Foundation members to enable customer development of portable cloud-native applications using the TIBCO BusinessWorks Container Edition
platform. Natively running within a Cloud Foundry platform-as-a-service (PaaS) environment, TIBCO BusinessWorks Container Edition enables developers to focus on the business logic of their applications, leaving much of the complex work of integrating applications and microservices to automation.
Assuring portability and interoperability is a cornerstone of the Cloud Foundry Foundation's mission, and TIBCO is now an official contributor to the goal of ensuring that digital businesses maintain independence and control over choice of languages, frameworks, application services and clouds.
"At the Cloud Foundry Foundation, we are always looking for ways to enhance our platform so that it provides vendor-agnostic flexibility, scalability, and interoperability for cloud deployments to help enterprises develop cloud deployments that best suit their business needs," said Sam Ramji, CEO of Cloud Foundry, in a statement. "Integration remains a key concern as cloud development proliferates, so we are pleased that TIBCO will be sharing its expertise to deepen the Cloud Foundry platform's capabilities."
Earlier this month, ECS Team, a professional services firm delivering technology solutions to solve strategic business challenges, announced that it has joined the Cloud Foundry Foundation as a silver member. ECS Team joins Pivotal, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, IBM, SAP and more than 50 other technology innovators as a foundation member.
"Formally joining the Cloud Foundry Foundation is a logical next step based on the amazing growth in our cloud-native solutions business," said Mark Carlson, CTO at ECS Team. "We look forward to contributing to Foundation projects by leveraging the work we are doing for Fortune 500 customers to implement Cloud Foundry and migrate the applications that maximize business value."
ECS Team's cloud-native development services include guiding enterprises through the initial phase of vendor selection through the setup, migration and implementation of the platform. Since 2014, ECS Team has sponsored the rapidly growing Colorado Cloud Foundry meetup and provided numerous meetup and conference speakers on Cloud Foundry-related topics. ECS Team was also a sponsor of and speaker at the 2015 Cloud Foundry Summit.
"Today, every company is a software company and growing numbers of companies are turning to Cloud Foundry to improve the quality and speed of application development," Ramji said. "They also are leaning on professional services organizations like ECS Team to help ensure their platform and DevOps strategies are solid, implement quickly and are a success. By joining the Foundation, ECS Team is demonstrating its ability to support enterprises with the best practices, expertise and education needed to build and execute a Cloud Foundry-based platform and DevOps services strategy that can scale with the business."
In December, the foundation introduced the Cloud Foundry PaaS Certification
program, an effort to guarantee reliable portability across PaaS products in a multivendor, multicloud environment.
The foundation also announced that CenturyLink AppFog
, HPE Helion Cloud Foundry
, Huawei FusionStage, IBM Bluemix
, Pivotal Cloud Foundry
, SAP HANA Cloud Platform
and Swisscom Application Cloud are the first products to receive the Cloud Foundry PaaS Certification.
With thousands of organizations using Cloud Foundry worldwide and more than $455 million in shared development invested, Cloud Foundry enters 2016 in good shape.
The platform has become a critical part of infrastructure for vertical industry cloud providers and leaders including GE Predix for industrial Internet of things (IoT), BNY Mellon's Nexen financial services cloud and Huawei FusionStage for telecommunications.
The Cloud Foundry platform also is seeing strong adoption in the government cloud space, supporting projects such as the U.S. government's 18F project—which runs its cloud.gov service on Cloud Foundry—China's Smart City Initiatives, the UK government
and Korea's NIA.
Moreover, Cloud Foundry and Cloud Foundry-based solutions are becoming the platform of choice for a growing list of leaders in industry and innovation, including Ford Motor Co., Mercedes-Benz, BMW, JPMorgan Chase, Citi, RBC, Garmin, Angie's List, Capital One, Allstate, Philips, NBC Universal, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin and others.
"At Cloud Foundry, a collective of industry leaders has joined together to fundamentally change the way everyone does business," said Cloud Foundry Foundation Chair John Roese, CTO of EMC, in a statement. "Looking back, we've accomplished something that no individual company could have ever done alone and it's rewarding to see huge progress in our effort to liberate app developers with true cloud portability and agility."
