BMC Software Inc. on Monday plans to announce new SmartDBA data management tools for Microsoft Corp. SQL Server databases.
SQL-BackTrack for Microsoft SQL Server 3.0 is the SQL Server version of the Houston companys backup and recovery solution. New features include logical extraction, which allows DBAs (database administrators) to selectively recover individual objects from physical backup, allowing for faster and more flexible recoveries while minimizing effects on the database. Also, named instance/cluster support enables DBAs to back up and recover multiple named instances of SQL Server, ensuring high availability and reliability of backups.
BMC is also putting out a SQL Server version of SmartDBA Cockpit—a Web-based console—and DBXray, a performance-monitoring tool designed to simplify database management. DBXray features a performance dashboard from which DBAs can detect, diagnose and fix database problems.
The announcement will be the latest installment of BMCs Project Golden Gate, a plan to provide data management tools that work in a mixed system environment that the company announced in October.
SQL-BackTrack for SQL Server 3.0 is expected to be available on Monday. Pricing details are available on BMCs Web site.
