In the world of web services, there is Java and .Net. Rational Software Corp. this month rolled out a development environment designed to bridge the gap between the two.
With its tightly integrated set of tools to write code, Rational XDE Professional v2002 enables developers to code and design directly in Microsoft Corp.s Visual Studio .Net or IBMs WebSphere Studio Application Developer without having to switch between tools.
Rational XDE Professional comes in a Java platform edition and a .Net edition. The Cupertino, Calif., companys product also includes a Java development environment for IBMs Eclipse for developers not entirely committed to a particular Java environment.
Rational XDE Professional provides a customizable pattern engine and instant UML (Unified Modeling Language) capabilities that include UML visualization and documentation support. It is also augmented by content and skill-building resources from Rational. The product is available now, priced starting at $2,995 per license.
