Sybase Inc. and SuSE Linux AG on Tuesday announced a new, global partnership to provide the companies joint partners with an easy-to-use Linux platform for Sybases enterprise-class, relational database system, Adaptive Server Enterprise.
ASE will support the upcoming SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8, powered by UnitedLinux—a standards-based Linux operating system targeted at business users and born out of a collaboration between Conectiva S.A., The SCO Group, SuSE, and Turbolinux Inc.—as an additional platform. Sybase plans to certify some of its products accordingly.
SuSE, headquartered in Nuremberg, Germany, is one of the top product integrators and providers of open-source operating systems in the UnitedLinux group. As SuSE sees it, Sybase, of Dublin, Calif., is key to helping SuSE get its foot in the door with enterprise business.
“We very much welcome the partnership with Sybase,” said Boris Nalbach, chief technology officer of SuSE. “Sybase is the technological leader in key areas, including integration solutions, data storage systems and enterprise portals. Sybase occupies a strong position in important industries, especially in the financial services and telecommunications sectors. Its proven solutions and services will help Linux to further penetrate into the enterprise business.”
