iAnywhere Solutions Inc. and SuSE Linux have forged a technology alliance that will give the mobile technology company access to ongoing Linux developments, iAnywhere officials announced on Monday.
iAnywhere, a Sybase Inc. subsidiary in Dublin, Calif., will also work with SuSE to optimize SQL Anywhere Studio for SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8. That product is a Linux version of a database geared for mobile, embedded and small and medium-sized business use.
The motivation behind the alliance is both the growing importance of Linux and of mobile data management, company officials said.
“Linux has become increasingly important for medium-sized firms and large corporations due to the cost benefits it provides and its efficiency,” said Mike Darabos, manager of Strategic Project Europe for iAnywhere, in a statement. “Partnering with SuSE will help iAnywhere Solutions reach an
even broader base within this growing community of Linux developers.”
“With SQL Anywhere Studio, our customers now have access to one of the market-leading solutions for mobile data management,” said Uwe Heine, chief alliance officer at SuSE Linux, in a statement. SuSE Linux is headquartered in Nuremberg, Germany. “As a result, these companies can take advantage of new opportunities for realizing technically advanced and innovative solutions under a secure and flexible server operating system.”
