SAP AG announced today the latest iteration of its Enterprise Portal software, featuring better multiplatform support, more language capabilities and upgraded collaboration functions.
The portal software helps companies access information from internal applications and external sources.
Part of SAPs NetWeaver integration stack, Version 6.0 of the Enterprise Portal now supports Unix and Windows servers as well as the Unicode characterization code, adding more than 20 languages to the portal interface capabilities.
At the same time, portal administration has been simplified through an object-based administration model for a more streamlined interface for delegating access and control of portal components, officials said.
For better communication in and outside a companys four walls, Version 6.0 offers support for what SAP, of Walldorf, Germany, refers to as collaboration rooms—virtual workspaces for teams, workgroups and communities. With the upgrade, collaboration rooms can be defined and controlled locally so content, memberships and permissions can be updated by a business user, rather than IT staff.
In addition, 6.0 is integrated with instant messaging.
Separately, an enhanced knowledge management capability that takes advantage of existing repositories along with current portal content makes unstructured data accessible and reusable. This upgrade provides a couple of extra features as well: content management, data retrieval, advanced categorizing and searching, and alerting and notification.
Enterprise Portal 6.0 is available now.
