Hyperion Solutions Corp. announced a new business intelligence platform built on its Essbase OLAP server as well as a business performance management application built on the platform at the companys Solutions 2002 users conference in Orlando, Fla., Monday.
The new BI platform, called Essbase XTD, is an extension of Version 6.5 of Essbase. It adds parallel calculation and enhanced parallel load for faster data analysis, Web-based query and reporting from relational and multidimensional data sources, as well as support for hybrid storage.
Other features include support for broader distribution of reports, a single point of data access for all types of users for collaboration, business views integrated with other applications and data sources, and integration with Web authoring tools to build Web-based applications.
In conjunction with the Essbase XTD release, Hyperion also announced a new application suite called Business Performance Management built on the platform.
The suite, designed to help managers measure business performance and anticipate results of business activities so as to increase profitability, includes applications now for financial performance and organizational performance management.
By the end of this year, Hyperion is expected to add similar applications for measuring the performance of customer relationships, supply chain and the channel.
Such efforts to improve business performance are catching on among BI vendors. SAS Institute Inc. already has a similar application called Strategic Performance Management, and Cognos Inc. announced Monday its Corporate Performance Management Framework, which includes planning, budgeting, reporting and analysis and scorecarding applications.
Similarly, Informatica Corp. announced Monday a packaged application called Strategic Sourcing Analytics, designed to give organizations greater visibility into and analysis of their procurement spending practices.
