The number of convenience stores in the U.S. is up almost six percent from the end of 2003, according to the National Association of Convenience Stores/TDLinx Official Industry Store Count.
Every part of the country saw an increase, with the biggest increase – 9.8 percent – in the Mid-Atlantic region, which includes New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
“While the increase partly is attributable to the opening of new convenience stores, the increase largely came from better visibility to independents and from existing stores that now meet our convenience store definition,” said Scott Taylor, executive vice president and general manager of TDLinx.
