PHP Fog has announced that its platform-as-a-service offering will soon be available for general use.
At the Under the Radar conference on April 28 in Mountain View, Calif., PHP Fog announced that its Cloud PAAS for PHP developers will be generally available within the next 30 days.
“With PHP Fog, developers can focus on what they do best — creating code — and they don’t have to worry about complex configurations and the nuances of daily maintenance programs for deployment environments,” said Lucas Carlson, CEO and creator of PHP Fog, in a statement. “We take care of it for them. Our unique cloud-based architecture gives apps the reliability and scalability needed so that developers can deploy their code in a few keystrokes which means faster development and iteration cycles. That in turn means better use of their time and less stress over things they don’t need to be maintaining.”
PHP Fog officials note that PHP is the foundation of big-traffic sites such as Digg, Facebook, Photobucket, Wikipedia and the White House. And PHP also is a widely used programming language that represents a large portion of overall Web development. PHP Fog’s cloud hosting platform provides a reliable, scalable, fast PHP service leveraging all the latest cloud technology, the company said.
PHP Fog gives developers dedicated resources for their applications in the cloud and works with existing PHP apps such as WordPress, Drupal, Joomla and frameworks such as Zend, Cake and Kohana. PHP Fog also features an app store for launching popular PHP apps such as WordPress, Drupal, Magento and SugarCRM.
In a blog post from January noting the closing of a $1.8 million round of funding, Carlson said:
“I couldn’t be more excited about all the strong investors the company has been able to attract. We are in a space that is changing every day, but the opportunity is massive. Now we have the resources to scale quickly and provide a world-class service to PHP developers.”
Meanwhile, in a similar play, on April 22 RightScale and Zend launched another PHP-based PAAS platform. RightScale and Zend Technologies announced a jointly developed solution for deploying and managing PHP applications with high availability, elasticity and portability in the cloud.
RightScale, which focuses on cloud computing management, and Zend, the PHP Company, announced their new RightScale Zend PHP Solution Pack, which provides a pre-configured open PAAS architecture for faster cloud onboarding while maintaining the ability to customize and control the cloud environment.
The RightScale Zend PHP Solution Pack combines the RightScale Cloud Management Platform with the Zend PHP architecture powered by Zend Server, delivering a production-ready solution for instantly provisioning a preconfigured, clustered PHP environment that scales dynamically while ensuring high availability.
April was a big month for PAAS announcements, as on April 12 VMware announced its new Cloud Foundry PAAS offering, which supports Java, Ruby and other programming environments.
