    Unlike some of its competitors (think Slack), Workplace doesn't offer a free option for for-profit companies (nonprofits and educational institutions get it at no charge). Instead, companies can sign up for a free three-month trial and then will be charged up to $3 per user per month, depending on the number of active users within their groups. It's important to note that the fee is based solely on active users, or those who have used the service in a particular month. Companies do not need to pay for those who are signed up and haven't used the service during that month.
 

After months of testing, Facebook Oct. 10 unveiled a new service it calls Workplace. The platform, which formerly was known as Facebook at Work before the company shifted its focus, is similar to popular corporate collaboration tools such as Slack, providing employees with the ability to communicate not only with others within their own company but within other companies as well. Workplace works across mobile and desktop. And since this is a Facebook service, employees will find familiar features, including chat, support for a company's News Feed to provide a steady flow of corporate updates and Facebook Live, so users can stream and watch video content in real time over the internet. Facebook's Workplace appears to be a compelling option for corporate users who want to break away from email or want to try something other than Slack.
