Airspan Networks Inc. released two new products based on the 802.16a wireless metropolitan area network (MAN) standard. The companys point-to-point AS3030 and point-to-multipoint AS4030 are proprietary implementations of 802.16a, according to Airspan CEO Eric Stonestrom.
Stonestrom said there are no interoperable 802.16 products because chipset makers such as Intel and Fujitsu have not produced chips based on the standard.
802.16 networks can transfer data at up to 30 miles at data transfer rates that approach 70M bps.
