Wireless provider Alltel and smart-phone maker Palm have teamed up to bring businesses the Palm Treo 700wx featuring Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, providing business users with access to e-mail, calendars and client contacts. The Treo 700wx, launched in September 2006 with only one carrier, Sprint Nextel, is now available on Alltels network. The Windows Mobile software on the Treo 700wx will allow users to view and edit the mobile versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF applications, and to access the Internet with Internet Explorer.
“The Palm Treo 700wx, running Windows Mobile, allows us to offer our customers one of the worlds most innovative smart phones running on the mobile software platform favored by many businesses,” Wade McGill, senior vice president of product management for Alltel Wireless, in Little Rock, Ark., said in a company release.
The smart phone includes a Today Screen feature, which enables users to dial by name with a few keystrokes; use one-touch dialing with customized photo speed details; access voice mail with icons such as rewind, delete and fast-forward; and ignore calls with an additional text messaging option.
Using Alltels Office SyncSM, also featured on the Treo 700wx, business professionals will be able to access their corporate and personal e-mail, their calendars, the corporate directory and business documents, while also providing wireless updates to their applications through Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes.
The Treo smart phone will also include a built-in dial-up networking functionality, allowing business professionals to quickly download files and access high-speed connections while at airports or hotels.
“Being able to give customers more choices satisfies the growing demands of the mobile work force,” Tim Roper, vice president in the U.S. region for Palm, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., said in the same release.
Other features of the Treo 700wx include:
- A 1.3 megapixel camera that will enable users to shoot digital images and videos
- Integrated Bluetooth 1.2 wireless technology, which will allow communication with compatible headsets, car kits, computers and printers that use Bluetooth technology
- Handmark Pocket Express, which will deliver news, weather, directory look-ups and other mobile content to Alltel subscribers
The Palm Treo 700wx is available now at Alltel retail stores, starting at $349.99 after a $100 rebate.
