Amazon's latest Kindle e-readers and Fire HD tablets are set to arrive for consumers in October, including the new seventh-generation Kindle Voyage, which is the thinnest Kindle yet offered, and a lighter, more powerful Fire HDX 8.9 tablet, which now includes a graphics engine that is 70 percent faster than earlier Fire models. The two new Kindle e-readers and four new Fire HD tablets were unveiled by Amazon on Sept. 17. The Kindle Voyage is Amazon's most advanced e-reader so far, with a 7.6 mm profile and a weight of 6.4 ounces. The standard Kindle, meanwhile, gets a series of updates, including a 20 percent faster processor, twice the storage and a new touch interface. The Fire HD tablet family comes in 6-inch or 7-inch screen models in five colors each, while the new Fire HDX 8.9 tablet drops its weight to 13.2 ounces compared with previous HDX models. All new is the Fire HD Kids Edition, which is Amazon's first-ever tablet built specifically for the physical punishment that kids can dish out. Here are descriptions of more of the features in the new Kindles and Fire HD tablets.
