Aruba Networks: #GenMobile Employees Reshaping the Workplace

The new #GenMobile generation of employees is coming into the workplace, and they're already stirring things up, according to a recent report from Aruba Networks. The company surveyed more than 5,000 workers worldwide, and found that this up-and-coming generation of employees is highly mobile, is very attached to their smartphones and tablets, and demands flexible schedules that allow them to work nontraditional hours and the ability to work remotely. In fact, the #GenMobile workers are molding their working lives around their devices, which let them work essentially from anywhere and at any time, and they want their companies to enable them to work how they want, Aruba officials said. And organizations are going to have to bend to those desires if they want productive, motivated employees, according to Ben Gibson, chief marketing officer for Aruba. "What this report suggests is that #GenMobile won't have patience with companies who do not accommodate their mobile lives," Gibson said in a statement. "In order to attract and keep the best employees, businesses need to start looking for solutions to ensure levels of empowerment and productivity in this emerging working world. Ultimately, many will have to totally redefine traditional work environments." This eWEEK slide show takes a look at some of the findings in the study.
