GoPro has made a name for itself by selling high-definition video cameras that are typically used by daredevils who want to record their exploits biking down rough mountain trails or parachute jumping from buildings and various national monuments. Now it is looking to branch out beyond its current camera technology into virtual reality. The company recently disclosed that it's planning to launch a new camera system that will allow users to take photos and turn them into virtual reality environments. That device, called a Six-Camera Spherical Array, might also share store shelves with a GoPro drone the company hopes to launch in the first half of 2016. The revelations about new product categories have brought new attention to GoPro, which has grown spectacularly from its days as a bootstrapped startup in 2002 to a public company today with a market capitalization exceeding $7.5 billion.
