Huawei's $299 Ascend Mate2 4G Is a Win for the Budget Conscious

Huawei has opened a U.S. store and is now accepting preorders for the Ascend Mate2 4G smartphone. The company has big plans for grabbing market share in the United States that include offering solid, unlocked, feature-rich devices, paired with premium customer service and affordable prices. The Ascend Mate2 4G features a 6.1-inch IPS display and will come unlocked, without a contract or subsidy, for $299. "We are going to be a challenger for the benefits of end users," Zhiqiang Xu, the new president of Huawei Device USA, said a June 3 press event. "I think end users are now paying for other companies' advertisements, and that's ridiculous." He added that the industry has reached a point that's stable and without disruptive innovations. "This gives us a window of chance to be challengers," Xu added. The Ascend Mate2 4G can now be preordered at Those who order by June 22 will receive a free month of service, a protective case and 20GB of online storage from Bitcasa.
