When Google unveiled its new Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet models Oct. 15, the company also had an unexpected gadget to announce: its all-new, first Android-based streaming media and gaming device, the Nexus Player. With this trio of new products, Google has refreshed its critical smartphone and tablet lines while adding a streaming player just in time for the holiday season. The Nexus Player, available for preorder immediately, hooks up to an HDTV as a home entertainment platform, allowing users to stream a wide variety of content to their televisions. The Nexus Player also allows users to play Android games on an HDTV using a gamepad and on their Android phone when they are away from home. The Nexus 9 tablet can also be preordered immediately and will be available in stores starting Nov. 3. Preorders for the Nexus 6 smartphone will be available in late October, with the phone available in stores sometime in November.  In this slide show, eWEEK highlights some of the best and most intriguing features of the three new Google devices.
