Samsung's newest consumer-aimed smartphones, the upcoming Galaxy A5 and A3 phones, are the company's slimmest handsets so far and are seen as important devices that Samsung hopes will ultimately increase its sales globally after recently posting disappointing third-quarter financial results. The new A5 and A3 smartphones will first be launched sometime in November in China, which is the world's largest smartphone market. Later they will come to the United States and to the rest of the world. No prices or estimated timelines for launches of the new phones have yet been provided by the company. The new ultra-slim handsets have been optimized for social networking as the technology giant aims to capture the imaginations and discretionary dollars of younger smartphone users who have lots of phones to choose from around the world, from Apple iPhones to handsets from HTC, Microsoft, Google, Kyocera and a wide range of other vendors. In this eWEEK slide show, we highlight some of the key features and technologies built into the upcoming A5 and A3 smartphones. (Images courtesy of Samsung)
