Apple's iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C are officially available in several countries around the world. Both devices look somewhat similar to the iPhone 5, but the iPhone 5C comes with a polycarbonate finish that includes different colors. The iPhone 5S, meanwhile, has three finishes—black, silver and gold. Apple is trying to push the gold version hard, and as of this writing, it seems to be working. It's gotten so many orders that gold iPhone shipments are pushed back to October. But deciding whether the iPhone 5S or the iPhone 5C is right for the average customer might not be so simple. Both devices are nice products, and they deliver an experience with iOS that folks won't find elsewhere. However, most customers can only choose one handset. For some folks, the iPhone 5S is the clear winner for its full set of features. For others, the iPhone 5C wins for its combination of economy and utility. There are still many people out there who don't have an iPhone and want to jump into the smartphone game. For them, the iPhone 5C might be just what they need. The device is cheap, it's running the same iOS version found in the iPhone 5S, and it can come with enough storage for entry-level users to get by. It's not a bad option.
