Sony Xperia ZL Smartphone Joins Xperia Z, Xperia Tablet
In the never-ending battle for smartphone market share, Sony has pulled out all the stops, design-wise, with the launch of its Xperia family of handsets and tablets. Premium materials, ruggedized construction and overall polish are all characteristics of the devices. Nearly all Xperia devices offer advanced cameras, near-field communication (NFC), and varying levels of water and dust resistance. One-touch connections through NFC technology allow the Xperia family to communicate with a range of NFC-enabled devices—such as the latest Bravia TV. Users simply touch the device to the TV remote control to instantly see photos or view the content of the phone's screen on a large TV screen. With an NFC-enabled headset or speaker, users can listen to the songs on their Xperia handset or tablet with just a tap. Time will tell if the devices—which all run variants of Google's Android operating system—will impact the market the same way Samsung's Galaxy smartphones and tablets have, but they certainly are a gorgeous sight to behold. Here's a look at Sony's extended Xperia family, starting with the latest model, the Xperia ZL, which hit U.S. shores the week of March 25.
